Communication is vital for effective healthcare delivery. Working daily with individuals with acquired brain injury, we understand their communication frustrations. When conventional means are not possible, we attempt to interpret cues such as touch, shrugs, eye blinks, gasps or even vital signs. What we learned from using currently accessible communication technologies in reaching out to our most difficult patients, can used to help any patient communicate better with their healthcare provider.
